Human Design Strategy & Authority

The Foundation of Your Design

1. Types and Their Strategies

Each Type has a built-in Strategy — a way to move through life with less resistance.

  • ManifestorsTo Inform
    • Act independently but inform others of your actions to reduce pushback.
  • GeneratorsTo Respond
    • Wait to feel a sacral “yes/no” response before acting.
  • Manifesting Generators (MGs)To Respond (then Inform)
    • Like Generators, but once you commit, inform those affected before moving fast.
  • ProjectorsTo Wait for the Invitation
    • Recognize your gifts and wait for genuine invitations in relationships, work, and guidance.
  • ReflectorsTo Wait a Lunar Cycle
    • Wait ~28 days (a full lunar cycle) before making big decisions, sampling energy as the Moon moves through all gates.

2. Authorities and How to Use Them

Authority is how your body makes decisions. It overrides the mind (which is never Authority in Human Design).

  • Emotional Authority (Solar Plexus)
    • Associated with: Manifestors, Generators, MGs, Projectors.
    • Rule: No truth in the now. Clarity comes by riding your emotional wave.
    • Practice: Delay important decisions until you’ve felt high, low, and neutral.
  • Sacral Authority
    • Associated with: Generators and MGs (when Solar Plexus is undefined).
    • Rule: The sacral speaks in the moment with a gut “uh-huh” (yes) or “uhn-uhn” (no).
    • Practice: Tune into your body’s response, not your mind’s story.
  • Splenic Authority
    • Associated with: Projectors, Manifestors, sometimes MGs (when only Spleen is defined).
    • Rule: Instant, quiet knowing — comes once, then gone.
    • Practice: Learn to trust subtle instincts without needing proof.
  • Ego/Heart Authority
    • Associated with: Manifestors, Projectors (when Will Center is defined in specific ways).
    • Rule: Decisions come from willpower and desire — “What do I want?”
    • Practice: Honor commitments that you truly want, not what others expect.
  • Self-Projected Authority (G Center)
    • Associated with: Projectors.
    • Rule: Truth comes through speaking — hearing your own voice guides you.
    • Practice: Talk it out with trusted sounding boards and listen to yourself.
  • Mental/Environmental Authority (Outer Authority)
    • Associated with: Projectors (with no inner authority).
    • Rule: Clarity comes by being in the right environment and talking with others.
    • Practice: Surround yourself with the correct people and spaces — your truth emerges there.
  • Lunar Authority (Reflectors)
    • Associated with: Reflectors only.
    • Rule: Major decisions need a full lunar cycle (28 days).
    • Practice: Track how your perspective shifts as the Moon moves through the gates.

3. How to Use Strategy & Authority in Daily Life

  1. Pause the Mind. Remember: the mind is not here to decide — it’s for awareness, sharing, and storytelling.
  2. Test in Small Decisions. Use your Strategy & Authority for both big and small choices — what to eat, whether to commit, who to spend time with.
  3. Track the Results. Notice where following it brings flow vs. ignoring it creates resistance.
  4. Let Time Teach You. It’s an experiment — clarity deepens through lived experience, not memorization.

4. Conditioning That Pulls You Off Track

  • Cultural Pressure: Society teaches us to use the mind, logic, or willpower to decide.
  • Family Expectations: Being told to “be nice,” “try harder,” or “be independent” often clashes with Strategy & Authority.
  • Comparison: Looking at how others act and trying to copy their approach.
  • Fear of Missing Out (FOMO): Acting fast to avoid being left out, rather than waiting for response, invitation, or clarity.
  • Impatience: Especially for Emotional Authority and Reflectors, pressure to “decide now.”

5. Key Reminders for the Experiment

  • Strategy + Authority = Alignment. Everything else in the chart adds depth, but this is the core practice.
  • It’s not about being right. It’s about noticing what happens when you follow vs. ignore it.
  • Expect Resistance at First. Years of conditioning mean you’ll slip — that’s part of the experiment.
  • Your Design Is Reliable. Over time, you’ll see that your Authority is always correct for you.

In short: Strategy and Authority are the entry point, the compass, and the practice field of Human Design. If someone only did this — and never studied anything else in their chart — they would still transform their life.
